Pig iron is intended for re-melting and is nowadays used as a raw material for steel making and can also be used to make cast / wrought iron.
Pig iron, a solid form of hot metal, is a product of smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. It has a high carbon content along with other impurities making it very brittle and found to not be useful when used directly as a material apart from certain applications.
