Hot Briquette Iron (HBI)
HBI acts as a supplement for pig iron and scrap in electric arc furnace for steelmaking to lower the residual metal elements content thus enabling the production of high quality steel products.
HBI, also known as sponge iron, is a form of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI). It is produced by compacting the iron ore with natural gas. A typical characteristics of HBI shows that it contains more than 90% of iron. It is steel’s most versatile raw material.
